Dinner Party April 12 at 6:30

I'm so excited for our dinner parties! We are planning on meeting at Aubrey's house in Herriman 5479 Clipper Peak Cir (13905 S) Herriman, Ut 84096
We will plan on getting a couple of pizzas and make our own salad bar. Jen, are you still willing to bring your famous bread sticks? I'll plan on bringing the base of the salad. Just leave comments on this post for the items you want to bring.

Prep for April Practice

For April practice be sure to bring your stools and bring them to every practice from here on out.

You should have all the "All Sings" memorized by April's practice. (African Noel, Ring the Bells, Deck the Hall (NO S!), Innkeepers Carol, and Born is the Light. ) Since we didn't do Innkeepers for March's practice we might give a little leeway for Aubrey and Rebecca on that one since they may want to hear it another time or two before they memorize it :)

After we review the All Sings we'll start work on the small group songs (By Candlelight, Christmas Round, and 12 Days.) Since Shauna will be gone in April we'll hold off on the guitar song until May. Let me know, Aubrey, when you're ready to start work on the solo.

I'm thinking I'll be a little more specific with the time for April's practice so we're sure to give enough time to each song and perhaps give the more difficult songs a little more time. I'll think more on that and let you know by next practice.

FYI--one of the things I'd like to do with the songs I'm directing (Ring the Bells and Innkeepers) is to have small groups sing them, meaning just one S1, one S2, one A1, and one A2 so you have to know the part on your own without relying on your part partner(s) to know your part. It will also help you to find out what sections you may be struggling where you didn't even know you were struggling. I may even have you do Innkeepers a cappella so you can really know your part without relying on accompaniment or other group members. So be prepared for that.

Sticky Chex

¾ c margarine
1 c sugar
1 c light corn syrup

Cook over medium heat. Boil 2 minutes and pour over:

1 12 oz. box Corn Chex
½ 12 oz. box Golden Grahams
coconut –optional, add as much as desired
sliced almonds –optional, add as much as desired
-I like to add M&Ms- just wait until it cools a bit.

Chocolate Fudge Bundt Cake

1 box chocolate cake mix
1 small box chocolate pudding
4 eggs
1 cup sour cream or 4 -6 oz cream cheese
1/2 cup oil
1/2 cup water
1 cup milk
2 cups chocolate chips

Directions:
Mix eggs, water, milk, oil, cake mix, and pudding together. Add
sour cream and chocolate chips. Grease and flour bundt pan. Bake at
350 for 45-50 minutes.

I thought that it would be nice to talk about some of the physical and spiritual borders that are between us and the ones that we love, and also the borders that stop us from experiencing joy. We might have someone that has hurt us that we can not forgive. We might be going through a trial and are angry with God. We may have someone that lives across the country that we miss. We might have someone who has died and the border between heaven and earth seem so far away. There are other borders that we create that stop us from experiencing joy. The love of the Savior and his infinite atonement has the power to break down all boundaries no matter how difficult. As all the borders break down, we all become one with the Savior in a stable in Bethlehem and rejoice at his birth. Love knows no border and love knows no bounds rejoice ye together, for Jesus our Savior is born.

Thanks for a fun practice last night! There was such a great "energy" there as we made some great decisions and had fun at the same time. I'm very excited for this new year and excited about our new members too. Thanks for letting me be part of this wonderful tradition!

Thanks everyone for letting me be a part of Gloria for the past 2 1/2 years.  It came along at a perfect time in my life, and I feel so grateful to have been a part of Gloria's history.  Thank you for being so patient with me as we learned songs together.  I will miss you and the time we spent singing and laughing together.

Thank you to all of you. You are very dear to me and I appreciate your friendship. It meant a great deal to have your "far away" arms reach through a card to hug and comfort me with the passing of my dad. I am not a crier as you ALL know, but you made me cry tears of gratitude. Shauna gave me the card/gift after the funeral was over and I had made it through all of that pretty well and when I read the card, my emotions hit. I am so grateful for your love and friendship. You ALL are wonderful women of God and I am honored to call you my friends. :)

So late Wednesday night/early Thursday morning I had a dream. Gloria had been invited to audition for American Idol. I know. People aren't invited to audition. That's why it was such an honor for Gloria. The current members of Gloria were so kind that they invited all past members to audition with them as well.

It was decided we would sing "Chocolate in My Stocking" so that way we would all be assured of being seen on camera and nobody would be behind the piano. The new members had made up a whole dance routine and new harmonies to it. The past members didn't know the routine and we didn't have time to practice. I'm not sure what the other past members were going to do but I was just going to lip sync and fake my way through it.

Our turn was called and we all got on stage and excitedly took our places. We were all in our dance position waiting for the pitch so we could start. We waited. And waited some more. Finally, our time was up and we hadn't even sung a note. We dejectedly walked off the stage knowing we'd be a part of the American Idol gag reel rather than be the stars we were meant to be. We had told all our family and friends about our good fortune but now we would only be embarrassments.

We gathered off stage, most of us in tears. One especially was in tears. Someone I didn't know. It was a new member of Gloria that I had never met. Those who knew her were gathered around consoling her. Apparently she was the one who was supposed to give the pitch for the rest of us. She explained that she just got stage fright, forgot what she was doing, and had let us all down. Everyone around was so forgiving telling her they were all scared and it was ok and not to worry . . . I was so impressed that we were all so quick to forgive for what could have been such a momentous occasion. End of dream.

I get up Thursday morning and check my emails and I see this from Shelli: "It's so great to be part of a supportive group of friends!" This very thought in various forms has been swirling around in my mind quite frequently the last couple of weeks. I just wanted to let you all know (even the ones I haven't met) I too am grateful for supportive friends. You are all an inspiration. (Even when you blow it for the rest of us on American Idol.)

Do you remeber singing for the nurses a couple of years ago. They want us to come back. I really enjoyed singing for them, and I would be ok doing it again, but I wanted to hear what you have to say. It would be on December 2nd at 12:30 in the afternoon, so it would be 2 performances that day.

Hi there you lovely women!

I was just asked by my ward if we could perform for our Enrichment. It would be Tuesday, December 15th. What do you all think? We don't have any performances that week, but it is 10 before Christmas. I would love to do it, since it is my own ward and I wouldn't be singing with you next year. Let me know!

This year, because of financial dificulties we will not have the Christmas that we are use to having. I know that there are others who are in the same or worse situation. I have been sad, dissapointed and at times angry, because of this, but then I read this from Elder Holland book "Shepherds why this Jubliee? and my perspective has been changed.

You will recal from Dr. Suess's harrowing holiday story, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, that this loathsome little man was determined to rob who-ville of every holiday treat. In a nefarious scheme in which the Grinch dressed as Santa himself, he moved through Who-ville taking every package, tree, ornament, and stocking. As he left the city with his sack full of stolen gifts , he chuckled in delight over the pain his actions would cause the people of who-vill. He climbed to the top of a mountain where he anxiously waited to hear the sound of youthful anguish coming form the city below. He even cupped his hand to his ear in eager anticipation

But what he heard instead were the joyful sound of happy people celebrating Christmas. He was chagrined- and amazed. he couldn't imainge it but christmas had arrived in spite of him! Though the people of whoville had no trees to trim, no ornaments to enjoy, no packages to unwrap, they were having a wonderful christmas anyway, it was more than the Grinch could fathom.

And he puzzled three hours, till his puzzler was sore.
Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before!
" Maybe Christmas," he thought " Doesn't come form a sotre
" maybe christma perhaps
Means a little bit more

Giving not getting, brings to full bloom the Christmas spirit. Enemies are forgiven, friends remembered, and God obeyed. The spirit of christmas illuminates the picture window of the soul, and we look out upon the world's busy life and become more interested in people than things. To catch the real meaning of the " Spirit of Christmas," We need only drop the last syllable , and it becomes the " Spirit of Christ.

As we sing these next few numbers we pray that they will help us all remember that Christmas doesn't come from a store, but christmas perhaps is a little bit more.

Hooray for Lunch!

Hi Ladies -

It looks like lunch will be at Tio's Mexican Restaurant this Thursday at 12:30. The Address is 635 West 5300 South. It's sort of in the corner of a strip mall and Catherine says there is a Smith's close by. I'm going to call and see if we can reserve their private room. LUNCH for Reunion

Hi all--It looks like lunch will work out best for most so we'll meet at 12:30 on Thursday, July 30th somewhere in mid Salt Lake. Roughly 40th South give or take some--and close to I-15. Any suggestions?
